Growing up in Upstate New York, Lauren discovered
an interest in proper diet and nutrition very early in her life. This interest soon flourished into a career objective
during her high school years. In 2006, Lauren graduated as a nutritionist from the University of Rhode Island, but her
hands-on experience began many years before her graduation. In 2001, Lauren began her work as a dietary clerk at Samaritan
Medical Hospital moving on to nutrition consultant for a community fitness center in 2004.
In 2005 she worked
with low income families; teaching them how to use local resources that were available to them in an effort to improve
the quality of their lives through proper nutrition. These programs offered low income families the benefit
of financial assistance, and with the help of Lauren, they had the tools and know-how to apply for such programs. Because
of her dedication to her work in this program, Lauren was awarded the Feinstein Anti-Hunger Leadership Award in 2006.
Her internship in dietetics was done at South Jersey Healthcare in 2006-2007 giving Lauren the opportunity to sit for the
Registered Dietitian exam. She has performed over 900 hours of supervised practice in this field and recently she has
joined our practice as a nutrtional consultant in our Health and Wellness program for Morbid Obesity. Here's what
Lauren has to say:
"Here, I hope to educate, listen, and participate in the process of applying food and nutrition
to weight loss. The rise in the prevalence of obesity among the U.S. population is of serious concern, as the health
and quality of life of those afflicted drops and health care costs soar. Lap-Band surgery is a highly successful tool
when paired with a healthful lifestyle of eating and exercising used to assist in weight loss. I see one-on-one personalized
obesity counseling as one way that I can use my education and experience to make a significant contribution".
Please help us welcome Lauren to our practice.
