Stage Six - Regular Diet

Once you have had placement of a gastric band, you will need to follow an eating plan in order to be successful.

Keep in mind that Lap-Band placement is only a "tool to transform" and more importantly, YOU are the real key to your success.

Exercise

While you are losing weight, you want to take advantage of some simple exercises you can do to tone up your body.  Using hand weights, leg weights and resistance bands; you can easily begin to tone your body just by walking in your living room.  You do not need to spend extra money to get a great work-out.  Walk in place for a minimum of 30 minutes at least 3 times a week (stick to it) and you will see the difference after just a few weeks.  Don't give up!  Play some music while you work-out and it won't even feel like exercise.  Give it a try!

The basic rules of eating after surgery include:

--Eat three meals a day with 1-2 protein shakes between meals (avoid snacking!).
--Each meal should be 4 ounces which is equivalent to 1/2 cup.
--CHEW! CHEW! CHEW! your food a minimum of 20 times before swallowing.
--Be sure to take one chewable multivitamin and 2 calcium tablets every day.
--Stay well hydrated by sipping on water throughout the day, about 64 oz.
--Do not drink any liquids 30 minutes prior to or after a meal.
--Stop eating when you feel full or 20 minutes have passed.
